Adventure-Ready Style with a Low-Profile Design

The Gypsum features a lightweight, flexible design with tonal stitching accents, a sleek silhouette, and a lace-up front. The neutrally colored upper showcases pops of color on the laces and around the heel.

Waterproof Upper Offers Breathable Protection

Because conditions can change suddenly, the Gypsum provides a range of different moisture-protection features. The waterproof upper keeps water out while still allowing your foot to breathe. For an additional layer of breathable protection, the Gypsum has a Keen.Dry waterproof membrane and a Dri-Lex collar that wicks away moisture and vapor to guard against odor.

EVA Midsole and Footbed for Optimum Support

For exceptional support throughout your day, the Gypsum has both a dual-density, compression-molded EVA midsole and a removable Keen Metatomical EVA footbed that provides arch support by hugging the natural contours of your foot. Additionally, Keen.Zorb Strobel--a full-length, foam-based cushioning layer--delivers a comfy, broken-in feel from the first step.

TPU Shank Reduces Foot Fatigue

To keep you going longer, the Gypsum's midsole has a torsional-stability shank made of TPU. This shank helps stabilize your foot as you move, reducing fatigue so you can go further, see more, and feel better when you get there.

S3 Heel Support

S3 stands for Shock, Suspension, and Stability and refers to Keen's unique heel-support structure. S3 is engineered to support the foot on impact, dissipating shock and helping to prevent ankle injuries.

Multi-Directional Lugs for Greater Traction

To give you a steady grip on a variety of terrain, the Gypsum has 4-millimeter multi-directional lugs on its non-marking rubber outsole. Because they're spaced wide on the sole, these lugs "bite" into the terrain, giving you more dependable traction on slippery and uneven surfaces.

Patented Toe Protection

Because rocky objects and debris can trip you up on the trail, most Gypsum styles include Keen.Protect, patented toe protection that wraps up and over the outsole for thorough coverage of the entire toe bed.

Keen: A Story of Hybrid Innovation

Keen began in 2003 with an inspired sandal design that combined comfort and toe protection. This radical design departure for sandals spawned the overriding Keen philosophy of hybrid innovation--striving to create new possibilities and to discover and implement original ideas.

Keen products put an emphasis on the joys of play. At the same time, Keen believes in the value of working hard to give back to the community. To that end, the company has partnered with non-profit organizations around the world to help get youth into the outdoors, protect land for its environmental and recreational value, and to give bikes to kids in need.

Perfect (for me), November 25, 2012

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
Straight out the box this boot was the most comfortable boot I have owned. I was introduced to Keen about a year ago and never looked back. This pair of boots just took my love of Keen to the next level, especially on materials used. Here’s a few things to consider before you buy:

This is a MODERATE level hiking boot. It probably wouldn’t hold up for backpacking. Then again, that’s not what it’s advertised as.

This boot is WARM. I don’t know if I would recommend it for the summer season.

This boot is WIDE. All Keens are made wider that the average shoe/boot, and this is no exception. As a guide, I wear a 15 EEEE, and these (size 15) fit PERFECTLY. Consider yourself warned if the you have narrow feet.

Very comfortable and supportive boot with a major flaw, April 4, 2014

This review is from: KEEN Men’s Gypsum Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot (Apparel)
    Pros:
    Comfortable and supportive
    Good Grip/ Traction
    Lightweight

    Cons:
    Poor Durability
    Waterproofing is only marginal

I have put about 100 miles on my pair of boots. I have done everything from mild hikes in the desert to extremely rocky terrain above 14,000′ in them. These boots are very comfortable and supportive. I have never gotten a single blister while hiking in these boots, and my knees and ankles feel great. The high padded ankle area offers great protection from small to medium sized rocks, and keeps a lot of dirt and sand out of your socks. The rubber toe cap has worked very well for me keeping my toes safe. I always wore quality wool socks with these, and that probably helped.

They are also very good on the downhills, my foot has never slid down and banged up my toes. The soles have had good to excellent traction on all kinds of dry and mostly dry rock. I even did a mild snow climb in these with a pair of Katoola Microspikes.

Here’s the downside- the durability of the sole is terrible. After just 2 hikes the thin rubber sole split in several places. After 2 more hikes the sole started to delaminate (separate) from the foam footbed. After this it became a weekly ritual to carefully clean and glue the rubber sole back on to the bottom of the shoe. It’s just become too much work to do this anymore, and these shoes are going in the trash can. It’s a shame, the rest of the shoe has held up wonderfully, and they are still very comfortable to wear, and fit me perfectly. I have used my boots on some very challenging hikes including Little Bear Peak and Capitol Peak, but having shreds of rubber flopping around on the bottom of my boot is becoming a hazard.

One might say that my hiking experience is hard on boots, but I do believe it’s a design flaw with the soles of these boots. Not only is the rubber thin, but it has many holes in it as well, and those are the points of failure. If you are only hiking on mild trails and need ankle support, this could be for you. If you need something with a good but not excellent waterproof design that is still breathable, this might be for you. If you are going to be hiking on rocky alpine terrain, skip these boots.
